Vodka and Lobster Have Officially Met, and There’s a Bottle to Prove It

Bold Coast Spirits has officially put lobster and vodka in the same bottle. The Maine brand opened preorders on October 15 for a limited-release Lobster Vodka made with reclaimed lobster shells sourced from Luke’s Lobster in Portland, Maine.

What the bottle is and how it is being sold

According to Bold Coast Spirits, Lobster Vodka is an 80-proof culinary vodka designed for both the bar and the kitchen. The company says the spirit is made with reclaimed Maine lobster and built to bring savory flavor to drinks and dishes alike.

The bottle size is 355 mL (12 fl oz), and the listed price is $29.99. Bold Coast Spirits says the first release is limited to 600 bottles, with an added $19 flat shipping charge for orders placed through its online shop.

Preorders are available exclusively through the Bold Coast Spirits online store. The company said orders are expected to begin shipping the week of October 26.

Bold Coast Spirits also says the product is produced and bottled at Artisan Distillery in Oxford, Maine. For shoppers, that means this is not a broad retail rollout at launch, but a small direct-to-consumer release with limited volume.

Why lobster shells are part of the pitch

The company says Lobster Vodka builds on its effort to capture the character of the Maine coast through spirits. In this case, the source ingredient is lobster shells from Luke’s Lobster, rather than lobster meat itself.

In the announcement, co-founder Jay Lombard said the idea started with the flavor left behind after the meat has been picked. He said the goal was to save that flavor and give it another life in a product that works on both a bar top and in a pantry.

Bold Coast Spirits also pointed to a sustainability angle. Citing Luke’s Lobster, the release says only about 20 to 25% of a whole lobster’s weight is typically eaten, leaving shells that still hold flavor after the meat is removed.

That framing helps explain why the company is calling this a culinary vodka, not just a novelty spirit. The shell-based infusion is meant to carry savory notes into recipes as well as cocktails.

How home cooks might actually use it

Bold Coast Spirits says the vodka was developed for Bloody Marys, and a “Bold Coast Bloody Mary” recipe is printed on the label. The company also suggests using it in pasta sauce, chowder, and risotto, where a small amount could add seafood flavor without opening fresh shellfish.

That crossover pitch may be the most interesting part for home cooks. A spirit sold as both a cocktail ingredient and a pantry product is unusual, especially one built around a distinctly savory seafood note.

The new bottle follows Bold Coast Spirits’ earlier Oyster Shell Vodka, which the company describes as its first exploration of Maine coastal character in spirits. Together, the two releases show the brand leaning hard into shell-based flavor and local sourcing.

For anyone curious about the trend, this release is real, limited, and very specific: 600 bottles, preorder only, 355 mL, and shipping expected the week of October 26. That makes it less of a gimmick on a headline and more of a small-batch product aimed at cooks and Bloody Mary fans looking for something different.
