How to Spend Quality Time With Your Children

A lot of us live very hectic lifestyles, trying to juggle a multitude of things. For most of us, they include holding down a job, running a home and family, a social life, and trying to get some exercise in, amongst other things. It’s no wonder many of us struggle to find time for anything these days. But in reality, some things are far important than others. And being able to spend quality time with the children is one of them. Remember, quality time is needed more than the quantity of time – for those of you who are really busy, this is a vital point. It is important we understand their development, if they have any issues they need to discuss, helping them with school work and a social life of their own. We can’t assume that having a quiet child means they do not need some TLC from time to time. To help get you thinking on ways to connect with your kids, here are a few ideas:

Daily One-to-Ones

This may be done as you’re are tucking them away for bed. All you need is around ten minutes of individual connection time. If you can sit down with your kid privately and ask any question on your mind, are you ok? Is school ok? Etc. If you can do this daily, you will develop a better understanding of them. If they are holding out on you at any point, you will be able to feel there is something wrong. Daily one-to-ones means you will be far more likely to pick up on subtle changes you may otherwise miss. That gives you scope to probe in any way you see fit, promising you won’t get mad or tell anyone is something you may have to do. And you will need to stick to your work until you have figured out how to help them.

Positive Behaviour Reinforcement

If your child has done a good job at school and got the top grades or has gone out of their way to help you or one of your siblings, for example, you need to reinforce this positive behavior. Verbal reinforcement is a must. Tell them you are proud of them, stick their high-grade on the fridge. You may need to be aware of your other children’s feelings as well, but positive behavior needs to be rewarded in some way. Perhaps, your reward could benefit all the children in some way, like taking them to see a film. Taking lots of photos of a school play, for example, and printing them off to be framed, could be a way of reinforcing good behavior. Use the gemini app to delete photo duplicates if you are an avid photo taker. You definitely want space on your phone to capture these proud moments.

Sit Down Meals

Why not have a sit-down meal every evening where phones are banned? This may take a little more preparation than having T.V dinners, but the results can be worth it. Perhaps waiting until everyone is together to have the meal is a must too. This gives you scope to have a family discussion every evening where the whole family gets to know each other better. It is also a great way to encourage healthy eating habits.

Family Activities

Once a month, at the weekends, you could go off for a family activity. Why not let everyone take turns in choosing an activity? That way, everyone is involved in the decision-making. Family outings such as Hikes, going to a Zoo, or a Theme Park, a mystery tour, are great ways for everyone to connect and learn more about each other’s skills. You will develop a better understanding of how your child thinks and feels about certain things, and that will enable your ability to help them if something goes wrong.

Be Silly

Life is not all about being serious all the time. Life is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not doom and gloom. Maybe you need to let your hair down and be a bit silly with the kids. Have a laugh and play with them. It is the small things in life that mean the most, and being able to let your hair down and have a laugh is such a great way to connect with people. It means that you are more approachable and down to earth, and sometimes that is all a child wants to see. Play tickle fights and hide and seek, and other little games which mean so much. You will find that these little things will reduce your stress levels too.

New Disney+ Originals Premiering This October For Hallowstream

Premiering October 1, “LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales” is a seasonal celebration of the villainous dark side of the Star Wars galaxy— just in time for Halloween. After the events of “The Rise of Skywalker,” Poe and BB-8 must make an emergency landing on the volcanic planet Mustafar where they meet the greedy and conniving Graballa the Hutt who has purchased Darth Vader’s castle and is renovating it into the galaxy’s first all-inclusive Sith-inspired luxury hotel. While waiting for his X-Wing to be repaired, Poe, BB-8, Graballa, and Dean (a plucky and courageous young boy who works as Graballa’s mechanic) venture deep into the mysterious castle with Vader’s loyal servant, Vaneé.  Along the way, Vaneé shares three creepy stories linked to ancient artifacts and iconic villains from across all eras of Star Wars. As Vaneé spins his tales and lures our heroes deeper into the shadowy underbelly of the castle, a sinister plan emerges. With the help of Dean, Poe and BB-8 will have to face their fears, stop an ancient evil from rising, and escape to make it back to their friends. Introducing Healthy Eating to Our Children: Obvious and Sneaky Ways

We all want our children to be healthy, and there comes a time when we inevitably start to peddle the same phrases that our parents did when it comes to eating our greens: “eat up, it’s good for you,” it will make you big and strong,” and so on. But the reality is that children don’t listen to these things because they don’t feel they need to be stronger because they are in the prime of their lives!

It’s so hard to give them that foundation of being healthy so they will be stronger and healthier later in life. This means that we’ve got to incorporate subtle strategies and slowly introduce the concept of healthy eating to our children. So, what can we do to help them in the long run?

Start Small

Of course, the biggest problem many of us have is thinking that we want our children to be healthy so, one day, we pile a whole plate of greens in front of them, but this is going to be a shock to the system, and they will probably turn their nose up at it. Instead, you have to start small.

It’s vital to remember that any little thing you put into their food or in front of them is going to benefit. We don’t have to start large, in fact, we can start smaller than just putting greens on the side. Some of the best herbs for good health can easily be put into a meal like spaghetti bolognese or curry.

When we start small, this is going to help them get used to the idea of eating healthier, but it also doesn’t pile the pressure upon us. We can think that it’s better to completely overhaul their dinner plates one day, but this makes the problem even bigger.

The “Combination Method”

Children are suspicious of new things, and this understandably includes healthy foods. One of the best things you can do is to introduce a combination of new foods with options your child already likes.

When they are forming their preferred tastes, you can introduce them to a variety of foods, which can reduce the likelihood of them being picky eaters, but what if you start to put something new on their plates, which makes approximately 15% of their meal, while the rest is stuffy already know, it’s not going to be a shock to the system.

But you also have to think that the new item may need to work in combination with the food they already like. For example, something like broccoli can easily be stirred into mac and cheese, and they will not notice the taste because the cheese is so strong.

The Sneaky Method

The battle of getting your children to eat healthier is as much a psychological one as it is a health-oriented one. Sometimes, we’ve got to find ways to sneak healthy things into their diet. A very good example is to make sauces that are full of vegetables.

While blitzing up fruit can release a lot more sugars, this is not the same when it comes to blending vegetables. So you can make them into a thin sauce that you can flavor up with herbs and spices, and it can be something that they have as a pasta sauce, or as something they use as a dipping sauce.

If they are big fans of ketchup, you can make your own natural ketchup, and put as many vegetables in it as possible without compromising the taste. This is very much trial and error, but if you can create a sauce that has lots of vegetables, you can rest easy knowing that this is at least one good thing they are having in their diet.

Offering Choices and Independence

Nobody likes to be forced to do something, and at the kitchen table, if you are offering the choice between celery or apples with peanut butter, it may not seem like much of a difference, but you are giving them the autonomy they need, while you are still able to remain in control of their nutrition.

If you can make it their idea to try something new, they’re more likely to give it a go. And if they try to outsmart you, this is where you have to incorporate guidelines. For example, every meal will have to include one serving of carbohydrates, one serving of protein, and three servings of vegetables.

You can then go one step further and let them make their own plates. When you start to give your child more autonomy and help them come up with ideas for foods, they are more likely to give it a go.

To go one step further, if they are old enough, you can get them involved in cooking it. Because if they work hard on something, they are more likely to give it a go. Because if you do everything for them it’s far easier for them to turn their nose up at it.

Do Not Force It

We don’t want them to feel stressed every time they are eating. Having choices are so important to encourage a healthy way of life. We have to remember that, even though we are trying to get them to eat healthier, we can’t expect them to like everything we put on their plates. You have to remember that their taste buds change over time. And we have to keep trying.

When you offer foods in different varieties, with different seasonings, different sauces, you have to figure out the best way to encourage your child. And also, you have to remember that you should lead by example.

If you are trying to take control of your health you’ve got to remember the impact you have on your child’s mindset and attitudes towards food. This means you all have to eat the same thing at the dinner table, and remember that it’s about being healthy yourself. Because if you tell children that they need to eat healthily but you are not, it’s not going to be a surprise when they battle you at the dinner table.

A Quick Guide To Golf for Beginners

Golf isn’t a sport that is instantly recognizable as being female orientated. Surveys suggest that only 24% of golfers who play on a course are women. This rises to 41% when you play off a course which is slightly more encouraging. However, golf is still a predominantly male-orientated sport.

There is no denying that being a novice in golf, especially as a woman, can be challenging. There are various reasons for this, but the most common is because it might appear to be quite overpowering and daunting.

Even though the environment is changing, many women did not grow up playing golf and hence did not have any early exposure to the sport of golf. But if your curiosity has been piqued and you want to see what all the fuss is about, after all, golf is the main pastime of many presidents throughout history, and if it is good enough for a president then is good enough for everyone, this post looks at some tips for women looking to get into golfing as well as start advice.

Borrow or Buy Golf Clubs

If you are a beginner golfer, you can borrow clubs or purchase a golf club set. Many golf sets are reasonably priced and include all of the fundamental equipment you will want. For the time being, all you’ll need is a driver, wood or hybrid, a couple of irons, a wedge, and a putter. Check out this buyers guide for women’s golf clubs.

If you know someone who has clubs, it is acceptable to borrow them in the beginning. An extra set of clubs may be available for use by a teaching instructor or at a clinic where you are participating. As your skills develop and you begin to play more frequently, you can invest in a set of your own. Every year, manufacturers introduce the latest technology and equipment, providing consumers with a plethora of options.

Master The Swing

Although learning the golf swing principles and how to hit the ball is difficult, it can also be a lot of fun if you get your swing down. After all, what is golf if you don’t get to swing the club at all? It is also necessary to provide a solid foundation.

The ideal thing, according to them, is to enroll in golf lessons with a golf professional who specializes in teaching the mechanics of the appropriate golf swing to beginners.

Many golfers swear by a teaching golf professional who can instruct and provide a solid foundation of abilities and strategies to build on as you progress through your game.

Another excellent method of learning is to enroll in a group class or clinic. It is possible to locate such opportunities at your local golf courses or practice facilities, as well as with women’s golf groups that have local chapters in your area (or even in your city).

These are a lot of fun because they are informal and low-key, and you can learn from people who are also just getting started in their careers. The best part is that it is social!

Practise, A Lot

Learning the golf swing is not the most natural movement, and it isn’t easy to learn in a single 30-minute or hour-long session. Aside from that, different swings are available for different clubs! Instead of taking one class or attending one clinic and then moving on, take several lessons or attend several clinics.

Consistency is important for beginning golfers.

It is recommended that you participate for at least a six-week period, to begin with. After each lesson, make sure to put into practice what you’ve learned so that you can improve your muscle memory. This will ensure that you progress over time and get the most out of your classes.

Learn The Basics of How to Play The Game

When you are first learning how to hit a golf ball, you don’t need to know much about the game. It is doubtful that you will be heading out onto the golf course for the very first time without having ever touched a club. After taking some lessons and practicing on the driving range, you may be able to go out and play a little golf on a real golf course.

If you do, you will need to be familiar with some of the terminology and etiquette associated with golf.

Some handy words to know include;

Areas you will find on a golf course.

  • Tee Box – where you tee up the ball at the start of each hole.
  • Fairway – the manicured grass between the tee box and the green.
  • Rough – the area off the fairways and greens in longer grass.
  • Bunker or Sand Trap – sand-filled areas.
  • Green – where the cup or hole is located.  Putting takes place here.
  • Fringe – the fringe surrounds the green and is just a bit longer than the green and shorter than the rough.
  • Flagstick or Pin – each hole has an actual target or flagstick
  • Hazard or Penalty Area –  these include ponds, streams, fescue, natural vegetation where a golfer may find trouble.
  • Out of Bounds – areas that are marked that can not be played out of.
  • Divots – marks, indents, or tufts of earth that have been pulled up due to a golf club or a ball that lands and marks the green.

Each hole on a golf course is designated either a Par 3, 4, or 5. The number relates to the number of shots to hole out 3 is the shortest and 5 is the longest.

The Scores are as follows;

  • Par –  This is given to the expected number of strokes to shoot for professionals
  • Birdie – 1 under par
  • Eagle – 2 under par
  • Albatross – 3 under par
  • Bogey – 1 over par
  • Double Bogey – 2 over par
  • Triple Bogey – 3 over par
  • Ace or Hole in One takes 1 shot on the drive to put the ball in the hole.

The skills can also be learned while playing with your partner if they have more expertise and are ready to teach you how to do so. This is how the vast majority of people learned to play golf.

Find Someone to Play With

This is, without a doubt, the most crucial element, and it can be not easy at times. It would help if you made an effort to find a partner to play with. In most cases, when asked if they want to play, golfers are eager to oblige.

Golf is the type of sport and activity that everyone may participate in with anyone else, regardless of their level of competence.

In essence, you are competing against the golf course, and your primary goal at the outset is to become familiar with the game and learn how to strike the golf ball. In addition, as you get more experience, there are numerous methods to make golf enjoyable or competitive, and you can compete against other people while playing.

Check with your local golf courses, practice facilities, and women’s groups for possible partners who don’t have anyone to play with. They may be members of social groups that meet regularly to socialize. If you attended a clinic, check with the other participants to see if they’d be interested in playing because you’ll be on the same level as they are.

Play On A Golf Course

Now that you have committed to studying golf and have gained some confidence in your ability to strike the golf ball, it is time to take your skills to the next level and play on an actual golf course.

An excellent approach is to brush up on some of the most important etiquette rules before getting on the course. If you can choose the sort of golf course, there are numerous options to consider.

The prospect of playing 18 holes as a novice can be incredibly intimidating at first. Try your hand at a 9-hole course or even a Par 3-hole course as they would probably be far more fun alternatives. A driving range is a completely different experience from playing a golf course, and you will discover this for yourself.

Start from the tees as far forward as possible, or even the family tees if they are available. They are closer to the hole, which means you will have a better time during the round. The goal of playing golf is to have a good time, not to worry about your score or the number of times you hit the golf ball.

Lastly, Enjoy It!

Golf should be fun, and if you are putting too much pressure on yourself, then chances are you won’t be having much fun. Take your time and get to grips with the game at your own pace and in an environment that supports your developing skills.

Don’t be intimidated to be a woman on a golf course, any golf clubs have a good proportion of female players who can help you to get the most from your game and settle in if required.
