Yelp’s new 2026 ranking of the Top 100 Indian Restaurants in America puts LA Indian Cuisine in Castaic, California, at No. 1. The list, released October 29, 2026, gives home cooks and takeout regulars a useful snapshot of the Indian dishes and regional styles drawing the most praise from Yelp diners this year.
What Yelp’s new ranking says about Indian dining in America
Yelp says this is its inaugural Top 100 Indian Restaurants ranking, and the company evaluated businesses in the Indian category using factors including review ratings and review volume. According to the report described by USA TODAY and Food & Wine, Yelp also capped the list at 10 restaurants per state to widen geographic representation, and all listed restaurants had a passing health score.
At the top of the ranking is LA Indian Cuisine in Castaic, followed by Mumbai House in Park City, Utah, and Zen Curry and Grill in Temecula, California. The rest of the top 10 are Spice Station in Kingsville, Texas, Tikka Indian Cuisine in Venice, Florida, Hot N Chili in San Clemente, California, Mesa in Jacksonville, Florida, Himali Bistro in Burlingame, California, Mirchi Indian Cuisine in Newbury Park, California, and Maaji’s Street Kitchen in Saint Ann, Missouri.
California had the most restaurants on the list with 10 entries, which Food & Wine said was the maximum Yelp allowed from any state. USA TODAY also reported that Florida and North Carolina each placed eight restaurants in the top 100, showing that highly rated Indian food is not limited to the biggest coastal dining hubs.
The dishes and styles that stood out on the list
The ranking points to a broad mix of Indian cooking, from familiar comfort dishes to more region-specific menus. Food & Wine reported that Yelp saw a 437% increase in searches for “Indian food buffet near me” in 2026, suggesting that diners are looking both for classic restaurant experiences and for easier ways to explore the cuisine.
Butter chicken was one of the clearest through lines in the coverage. Food & Wine said Mumbai House’s chicken makhani, also known as butter chicken, drew particular praise from reviewers, and Yelp trend expert Tara Lewis told the magazine that butter chicken searches hit an all-time high on Yelp in February. Lewis also said dishes such as chicken tikka masala, biryani, and garlic naan appeared again and again in reviews.
The top 10 also shows how much diners are responding to regional specialization. Food & Wine highlighted Goan cooking at Tikka Indian Cuisine in Venice, Florida, Punjabi-style dishes at Hot N Chili in San Clemente, and Kerala flavors at Mesa in Jacksonville. The same report noted that Nepali and Himalayan dishes are part of the picture too, with momos helping drive attention to Zen Curry and Grill and Himali Bistro.
Why this matters to diners and home cooks
For readers deciding where to order dinner, the list offers a practical starting point, especially in places that are not always treated as major food capitals. USA TODAY noted that the restaurants stretch from large cities such as New York and New Orleans to smaller communities, including Castaic and Kingsville, which may help diners look beyond the usual metro standbys.
For home cooks, the ranking is also a clue to what people are craving most right now. The recurring dishes mentioned in coverage, including butter chicken, tikka masala, biryani, naan, and momos, are a reminder that the most praised restaurants often balance familiarity with a few specialties that set them apart. Regional menus also give cooks ideas for branching out beyond a standard curry night.
Hospitality was another theme behind the top-ranked spots. Lewis told Food & Wine that what many of the restaurants on this year’s list share is hospitality, pointing to examples such as owners offering samples to help newcomers order and chefs creating a more personal experience in the dining room. That kind of welcome does not translate directly to a home kitchen, but it does help explain why certain neighborhood restaurants build such loyal followings.
