Staying Fit For the Holidays

Full disclosure: it’s hard to stay fit during the holidays! There are holiday treats galore, and they’re almost impossible to resist. In fact, one of the smartest decisions you could make is not to resist them.

Let’s take a look at some tips for staying healthy through the time of year when everybody eats more than their fair share.

Give in to Your Cravings

Ok, maybe not every one of them. But in all seriousness, if you resist every single one of your cravings, those cravings will grow into unmanageable beasts. You’ll find yourself scarfing down chocolates in secret and convincing yourself it’s ok.

Nibble on treats here and there throughout the holidays, but set limits. Make it a goal to meet your daily water intake before you have any sweets. Or commit to doing twenty minutes of physical activity before allowing yourself dessert.

If you have a plan you know you can stick to, indulging will be much more enjoyable and you’ll be able to control yourself a little better.

Know Your Triggers

Before heading into the holiday season, figure out what triggers cause you to skip a workout or overindulge on unhealthy snacks. Once you know what these triggers are, you can find ways to overcome them.

If you find that lack of sleep makes you want to stay in bed longer, commit to shutting off the TV and your phone, and go to bed thirty minutes earlier. If you know that you won’t work out after dinner, block off your calendar at the same time every day, preferably first thing in the morning, and then stick to it.

Move Your Whole Body

The holidays are a busy time, and finding time to work out amongst all of the shopping and extra family time is really hard. Skip long workouts and instead, opt for HIIT workouts that get your entire body moving. They give you cardio and strengthening exercising all in one, so you can get your workout done faster and more effectively, saving time for the fun stuff.

You can’t always avoid the bad stuff, but as long as you make a commitment to stick to a schedule and do your best, you’ll get through the holidays without having to sacrifice much. Bonds has fantastic athletic wear to keep you comfortable while you move. Just have fun!
