Whole Foods Market is taking its smaller-format Daily Shop concept to three more cities. On May 13, 2026, the grocer said it had signed leases in Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia as it continues building a format designed for dense urban neighborhoods.
Where the three new Daily Shop stores are planned
Whole Foods Market said the new Daily Shop locations are planned for Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia over the next two years. According to the company, the format is meant to offer high-quality food and everyday essentials in a more streamlined footprint than a standard Whole Foods Market store.
The three confirmed lease addresses are:
111 Harbor Way, Boston, Massachusetts, in the Seaport district
1200 N Ashland, Chicago, Illinois, in the Wicker Park neighborhood
2221-2225 South Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Whole Foods Market said opening dates for those stores will be announced later. That matters for shoppers because the announcement confirms where the concept is headed, but not yet when each store will open or what each neighborhood-specific assortment will include.
The company described Daily Shop as a store built around a focused assortment and an efficient shopping trip. In its announcement, Whole Foods said the format is intended to make it easier to shop for meals, pantry staples, and grab-and-go food without the footprint of a full-size supermarket.
What Whole Foods says will be on the shelves
Whole Foods Market said each Daily Shop will carry a focused assortment of core categories rather than the full range found in a traditional store. The company specifically named fresh produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, bakery items, and a curated selection of 365 by Whole Foods Market products.
The retailer also said the stores will highlight local and regional suppliers. That suggests shoppers may see some assortment tailored to each city, though Whole Foods did not release product lists, store sizes, or opening-day details for the three new leases.
In the same announcement, Christina Minardi, vice president of real estate and store development at Whole Foods Market and Amazon, said Daily Shop is an important part of the company’s physical store growth. Stephanie Curley, senior manager of growth and innovation at Whole Foods Market and Amazon, said the stores are designed intentionally from layout to assortment, with merchandising and fixtures aimed at making products easier to find.
Whole Foods also said Daily Shop locations use flexible design elements and smart merchandising strategies. According to the company, product placement and layout are meant to highlight high-demand items, simplify navigation, and support quicker decision-making for shoppers making smaller, more frequent trips.
Why this smaller-format grocery model matters
Whole Foods launched the Daily Shop concept in New York City in 2024. The company’s first Daily Shop opened on September 18, 2024, in Manhattan, and Whole Foods later opened its first Daily Shop outside New York City in Arlington, Virginia, on October 23, 2025.
Whole Foods said the format expanded internationally in April 2026 with its first London Daily Shop. At the time of the May 13 announcement, the company said it had eight Daily Shop locations across the New York City metro area, Arlington, Virginia, and London, with more planned in London and the New York City area later in 2026.
For home cooks and city shoppers, the bigger idea is convenience with a narrower, edited shelf set. A smaller store can mean faster trips for dinner ingredients, prepared foods, and pantry basics, though it can also mean less variety than a full supermarket. Whole Foods did not claim that every item from a larger store would be available in Daily Shop.
The three new leases show that Whole Foods is betting that a compact grocery format can work in neighborhoods where space is tight and quick trips matter. For now, the clearest takeaway is simple: Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia are next, and the exact opening dates are still to come.
