What to do when you lose a loved one

When you lose a loved one you have just lost a piece of your heart.  Whether it’s a family member, a friend or even a pet, you will never be the same again.  We all want to do something to remember them, but figuring out what to do can be hard.  Do you want to make something?  Do you want something made for them?

No matter what there will always be unanswered questions.  You will never really know how they want to be remembered, but they are gone and you can remember them what every way is best for you.  This is a time in your life you are allowed to be selfish and do what you really want to.  Don’t let anyone else tell you how you should feel and how long you should feel that way.

When my grandpa passed away my grandma made us all cute tiles with their 50th anniversary picture on it.  To this day I look at it and remember how much I loved him and how much I miss him.  This was a gesture that I never expected, but still to this day makes me smile.

Doing something like this can be the perfect memorial.  They even have a place that when your loved one passes away, they will turn their ashes into diamonds.  You can have a beautiful piece of jewelry to remember the one you love forever.  Even better the diamond is made from a piece of them.  I keep telling hubby if I ever loose my black labs I am making black diamonds out of their ashes then they can be with me forever.

Now if you are a more creative person making something your self can be even better.  It will be something made from hand with love.  You may need some specialty tools like at MemorialWoodWorking.com.  You may have everything you need.  My father made a bench out of old wood from the family farms and branded them with the cattle brands of our family.  This is something that no one else can ever recreate.

I on the other hand am not a crafty person so I have to depend on other people’s talent to create memories for me.   When you are coming up with you way to remember them also look at what you can do for others that loved them sometimes getting more of the project material or more of the item you are buying actually will cost less.  Why not bring a piece of the person you love to others.

No matter how you want to remember your love one I am sure they will be looking down on you and love the time and thought you have put into it.

  1. This is such a good idea that I need to help others remember my Dad who recently passed away. Giving others a picture of him on an item is such a touching way to remember a loved one. I never thought about this at all.

  2. I love the gift your grandmother gave you. It’s so very thoughtful.
